Minutes of June 15, 2008

Membership Meeting

Panera Bread, 4172 William Penn Highway

Monroeville, PA

Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order by President Meghan Whalen at 11:35 a.m. with the following members in attendance: Ron and Jackie Burns, Meghan Whalen, Tutty Lessig, Judy Hughes, Jervais and Christina Carr, Sean and Cassie Wilson and Nina Biehler.  Also present, Tutty’s sister Audrey.

May Minutes:  A motion to accept the minutes as circulated was made by Jackie Burns and seconded by Tutty Lessig. The motion passed and the minutes were accepted.

President’s Report:  Meghan reported that she had received an e-mail from the WCA concerning the death of Dorothy Derr and that she sent a card from the club.

Secretary’s Report:  Nina reported that the club has received a set of three DVDs from Purina Pro Plan of the presentations from the 2007 Philadelphia Breeder’s Symposium. It was decided that copies of the DVDs will be produced for members who request them with only a nominal fee being charged to cover the cost of the DVDs, jewel cases and labels.  Nina also shared a copy of some guidelines for bloat in dogs that she had received through an on-line group.  Copies of the bloat guidelines will be sent out with the newsletter to all members.

Treasurer’s Report: Jervais reported that she has received two checks from the New Castle shows, but that the club made no profit on the shows. Jervais said she will contact WCA to check on the fees the club owes them from the New Castle shows.  Jervais also reported that there was no ad in the paper in June, but she will have it put in again in July.

Committee Reports

Rescue:  Meghan reported that the dog in the Carnegie area is still in need of a home.

Dog Shows:

New Castle Specialty:  Meghan reported that everything went fine at the shows and all that is needed now is to close everything out by paying WCA the necessary fees and to send the results of the judging for publishing in the WCA magazine.  Judy suggested two more judges for consideration for the New Castle shows next year, Judith Goodin and Terry Stacy.  One concern mentioned to address for next year’s shows is an area of reserved parking for club members near the Weimaraner conformation ring.

Canfield Specialty:  Meghan said that the premium is now out for the Canfield Specialties and that one of the corrections she made to the proof was not picked up and so there is an error in the percentage of prize money to be given for the Sweepstakes, and that we’ll follow the percentages as listed in the premium.  It was decided that checks would be given to the sweeps judges from the club as a gift.  Folding chairs are needed for Saturday, August 2nd, for the judges’ education ringside seminar.  Judy and Cassie will steward on Thursday and Saturday.  Meghan mentioned that the Cleveland Weimaraner club is hosting a catered banquet Friday evening.  It was decided that the club would hold a 50/50 raffle one day and raffle off baskets on the other day at the Canfield Specialties. Cassie said she would look into getting a print from Harry that might be raffled. Club members were asked to donate dog-related items that can be used to assemble baskets for the raffle and to bring their items to the July club meeting.

Membership:  Meghan reported that she is working on business cards that club members could use to help advertise the club.

New Business:  Judy suggested that a trophy in honor and memory of Tom Wilson should be created by the club and suggested that Damara Bolte be commissioned to render a bronze cast for use on the trophy. The matter will be explored to see about cost and availability.

Adjournment:  A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Tutty and seconded by Meghan.  The meeting was adjourned at 12:40 p.m.

Upcoming Meeting Date and Location: The July meeting will be held on Monday, July 14 at the King’s Family Restaurant, just off the Turnpike Exit in Harmar Township, starting at 7:00 p.m. The telephone number for the King’s Family Restaurant is 412-826-9170.

Respectfully submitted,

Nina Biehler, Secretary
