Recent Events

WAGP held the second of our two specialties during the Canfield Cluster in Canfield, OH.  On Thursday, July 30, 2009, WAGP sponsored a Supported Entry with Sweepstakes and Veteran Sweepstakes.  The weather was a bit hot for everyone, but we all enjoyed our day.  Our Sweepstakes judge was Mrs. Johnette Dinello, who did a wonderful job with her big entry!  Mr. Dana Cline then judged the regular breed classes on Thursday.  A big 4 point major!  Mr. Cline chose Ch. Doc's Seven Ships of Acadia as his Best of Breed.

Saturday, August 1, 2008, was WAGP's specialty with another great turnout.  The weather was much more accommodating that day and was appreciated by both handlers and competition!  Sweepstakes and Veteran Sweepstakes were judged by Ms. Monique Luck.  Mr. Eugene Blake was the breed judge, and he also did a spectacular job with his large entry!  Another huge 4 point major!!  Mr. Blake chose Ch. Doc's Seven Ships of Acadia as his Best of Breed.  Following the Breed judging, all Weimaraner exhibitors and guests were welcomed to a lovely pot-luck lunch.  It was enjoyed by all who attended!

Meeting Minutes

Minutes of October 2009 Meeting

Sunday,  October 18, 2009

Bella Luna Trattoria, Monroeville , PA

Call to Order:            The meeting was called to order by President Meghan Whalen at 7:08 p.m. with the following members in attendance:  Jackie and Ron Burns, Jason and Meghan Whalen, Sean and Cassie Wilson, Judy Hughes, Christina and Devin Carr and Nina Biehler.

September 2009 Meeting Minutes:              A motion to accept the September 2009 meeting minutes as circulated was made by Ron and seconded by Sean.  The motion passed and the minutes were accepted.

President’s Report:   Meghan announced that during the Board of Directors meeting held immediately before the membership meeting the follow people were named to the nominating committee:  Chairperson, Cassie Wilson, Christina Carr and Tutty Lessig.  Named as alternates were Sharon Oblack and Nancy Dinkfelt.

Meghan also went over the three methods the club is using to fulfill the AKC breed club compliance requirements, which include the breeder referral listing on the club’s website, the club’s work with a pure bred rescue and running an ad for the AKC in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Meghan will email Jervais in regards to putting the ad in the newspaper.

Secretary’s Report:   No report.

Treasurer’s Report:   No report.

Meghan reported that she submitted her receipts for reimbursement, which consisted of turnpike tolls, for attending the meeting held in Canfield for planning of the Steel Valley Cluster for 2010.

Committee Reports:

Rescue:          Nina reported that she has been receiving quite a few calls about Weimaraner rescue and that many are from people looking to adopt a dog.  She told about a dog now on the rescue’s website, Roxanne, a very pretty long-haired Weimaraner.

 Dog Shows:

2010 New Castle Specialty:  Meghan said that she has been told that Judge Elaine Lessig will probably overdraw, so we are going to lose her as a judge.  Meghan is going to check with Jim to see what he thinks.

2009 Canfield Steel Valley Cluster Specialty:  Meghan reported that she has still received no photos from the show photographer and is going to have to send the article to The Weimaraner Magazine without photos.

2010 Canfield Steel Valley Cluster Specialty:  Meghan attended the planning meeting for the Steel Valley Cluster held Tuesday, October 13th in Canfield.  She told the group that the judge for the Saturday specialty will be Anne Yuhasz and for Thursday, when the club has supported entry, it will be Michael Faulkner.

Meghan informed the club that Tim has proposed a ring change for the Weimaraners as show management would like to separate the Whippets and Labs, who both show in the same ring, as there are time constraint problems in that ring due to their large entry.  A discussion was held of the pros and cons of moving from our usual site and the consensus of the club members was that we would like to retain our ring and not move.

Meghan also told the club that this will be Tim’s last year as show chair.

Discussion ensued as to whether the club wants to print up t-shirts and/or pens for the WCA Maturity/Futurity being held at the Steel Valley Cluster in 2010.  Cassie said she would check on prices of T-shirts and Ron Burns said he will check on prices of pens.

Old Business            Meghan again brought up potential sites for the club’s Christmas party, which will be held in January of 2010.  Christina mentioned the Hof Brau Haus as one idea.  Meghan urged club members to get information on prices and other requirements about any place they are interested in and to bring it to the November meeting when a vote will be taken on where to hold the party.

Adjournment:            A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Christina and seconded by Cassie.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Upcoming Meeting Dates and Locations  The November meeting will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009, at 7:00 at the Eat’n Park at Pittsburgh Mills.

Respectfully submitted,

Nina Biehler, Secretary
